NuAGE Laser and Skin Care Clinic
Project Description

NuAGE Laser is an advanced laser therapy, skin care and hair removal clinic located downtown Vancouver. Their clinicians are highly skilled and the technology is cutting edge.

When the founder, Ellie Yousefian, selected our design studio to design her very own clinic we were very excited as the future project seemed to be quite challenging.  How can you fit a fully-operational treatment room, a consultation room, a staff room w/washer/dryer combo and a kitchen, a retail area, a make-up station, a reception for two and a waiting area for 3-4 people plus conveniently locate ample storage on a 380 sq ft footprint and make it look and feel spacious, inviting and gender neutral?  The final result made everyone happy.

Inspired by the geometry of the space, we came up with the concept of a returning boomerang, which also represents returning customers, and translated its shape into a drop ceiling wrapped in wood, the material which boomerangs are typically made out of.  The color scheme was then put together consisting of the matching wood, greys and whites, found in the existing granite floor tiles, and added chrome accents.

Thoughtful space planning, wooden accents and quality lighting make this salon stand out while the pink backlit Nu logo lures people in.

Mon Paris Patisserie
Project Description

MonParis Patisserrie is a gourmet chocolate and pastry shop located in Burnaby’s famous Metrotown area.

It is owned and operated by the renowned Chef Elena Krasnova, a graduate of famed Ferrandie Ecole de Gastronomie in Paris.

MonParis patisserie is an all-encompassing project for which Red Box ID was responsible for the interior design and custom millwork.  The 1000 square foot space consists of fully functioning chocolate and pastry kitchens and inviting bistro-style café with Parisian vibe.

Like any great Chef, Elena’s pastries are unique, they are French but with a modern twist and that was what we wanted to translate into the interior of the café.  As a result, this café looks and feels French but it is not a replica by any means.

Since the Eiffel tower is present in the company’s logo, a full height mural of the Eiffel tower view was selected for the feature wall of the café area.  It became a clean and unadorned backdrop for this bistro-style seating area with its sky continued on the ceiling represented by the painted stripes in 3 matching colors inspired by the famous song Sous le ciel de Paris (Under Paris Skies).

The old looking floor tiles are laid in the pattern reminiscent of Place du Trocadero.  The retail area consists of custom designed and built refrigerated displays where colorful pastries are displayed next to the handcrafted glossy chocolates.  Proper lighting with high color rendering index was selected to reveal all the richness and the nuances of Elena’s creations.

Stop by and try authentic French pastries and chocolates or perhaps sign up for one of Elena’s private pastry class in her state-of-the-art spacious 600 square foot open-concept kitchen.

Life Luxe Spa
Project Description

A' Design Award Winner (Milan, Italy) 2015

Can Modernism and Art Nouveau harmoniously co-exist in one space?  They sure can in Vancouver.

When the new owners of Life Luxe Day Spa + Laser approached our interior design studio to revitalize their newly purchased but outdated spa salon, the space needed more than just the removal of a T-bar ceiling and a fresh coat of paint. An overhaul of the electrical and mechanical systems, development of a unique brand, and vastly improved space-function and flow were the most important challenges of this project. Who could have guessed a stylized turn-of-the-century arts movement would be the key?

The clients wanted to create a beautiful organic spa experience with curves and textures, rich colors and sparkling chandeliers – a space with “European flare”. We responded by blending a vintage Art Nouveau-inspired palette with a clean Modern aesthetic by combining saturated colour with crisp white light, organic graphics and gold accents with polished metal furnishings, and whiplash curves with strong vertical elements.

The corporate colour palette selected was minimalist white accented by the rich chocolate, gold and yellow used widely in Art Nouveau. The broad brown line which travels around the salon, wrapping the front entrance wall and ceiling, emphasizes the flow and openness in the salon.  In contrast the repetition of parallel yellow lines clearly define the retail area, which has been considerably expanded for more product exposure. No-VOC high gloss epoxy flooring, custom furniture and European pendant lights add the desired “luxe” to the space while golden shimmer beads reflected in full height mirrors define the waiting area and make it appear more spacious.

Local artist and graphic designer, Masha Tikhonova, was commissioned to help rebrand Life Luxe. The logo’s double “L” may seem obvious, but its design and colour in fact represent the spa owners’ faces and their family connection with gold as the blond mother and brown as the brunette daughter. The organic nature of Art Nouveau was applied throughout the space with each treatment room adopting a flower name instead of just being numbered. Lilies, orchids, jasmine, hibiscus and peonies, all in concept-inspired colours, now emerge and give life to these revitalized private spaces.

Other major improvements of this space include an electrical upgrade where 80% of incandescent lights were switched to LED fixtures.  Existing HVAC system has been updated, redesigned and replaced with linear air diffusers, many of which were integrated within the drop ceilings. The new storefront glazing not only became a canvas for custom graphics and allowed for unobstructed views, but most importantly it dramatically reduced outside noise which was essential for creating a tranquil spa setting within the space.

Life Luxe Day Spa + Laser combines the best of contemporary and classic, modern and organic into a beautiful, flexible and fully accessible spa experience.

World Kids Books Store
Project Description

Best of Canada Award of Excellence in Retail Category 2013

Silver A' Design Award Winner (Milan, Italy) 2013

Inspired by a local company to create a sustainable, fully operational bookstore on a small footprint, RED BOX ID used the concept of an ‘open book’ to design a brand new retail experience that supports the local community. Located in Vancouver, Canada, World Kids Books is a showroom first, retail bookstore second, and an online store third. The bold contrast, symmetry, rhythm and pop of color draw people in, and create a dynamic and fun space. It is a great example of how a business idea can be enhanced through interior design.
